Choice Non-Resident Enrollment

Key Dates for 2024-2025 Student Transfer Requests to attend Rochester School District Schools

FIRST CONSIDERATION– March 1 to March 31, 2024
Applications received by March 31 will be given first priority and will be notified of the district’s decision by April 30. Students renewing their choice transfer enrollment will be given first consideration.

SECOND CONSIDERATION- April 1 to April 30, 2024
Applications received by April 30 will be given second priority and notified of the district decision by May 31.

After April 30 through the First Day of School
Applications received after April 30 will be considered in August on a case-by-case basis and may have to wait until actual enrollment counts in September before receiving notification. Students should register at their resident school until a decision is made.

School Capacity and Waiting Lists
We are experiencing over-crowding in some grade levels. This limits our ability to accept transfer students. If a student is denied based on capacity, parents/guardians may request to be placed on a waiting list and notified if a space becomes available during the school year.

Transportation
In all cases where the District approves a transfer, the student's parent/guardian, or student, shall be solely responsible for transportation to and from school.

Choice (Non-resident) Transfer

Please use the online Washington State Choice Transfer Portal to complete a non-resident transfer request. If you need a paper copy of the current non-resident transfer request form, please contact our office for assistance. Approval or denial of transfer requests is based on the criteria outlined in board policy 3141 for nonresident students.

Transfers are granted for one school year and are not automatically renewed. Families wishing to remain at their non-resident school must remember to apply for a transfer each year, which may or may not be approved based on district criteria.

Transfers may be approved or denied based on:

  • Space, program availability and/or class size
  • Student's disciplinary records
  • Student's attendance records
  • Student's academic progress

See board policy 3141 for information and your right to appeal the superintendent's decision.
