Program Services

For Students the Guidance Counselors:

  • provide personal, academic, and career counseling

  • provide counseling to students on self-understanding, responsibility, friendship, and self concept

  • provide social skills development and support groups for students with self-identified problems

  • provide support for students with identified needs

  • inform all students of their academic progress and graduation requirements

  • provide recommended placement for students in special needs classes

  • provide assistance with conflict resolution

  • provide intervention counseling to students with behavioral difficulties

  • provide counseling and referral services to students with substance abuse problems

  • provide information and guidance in the area of career exploration

  • assist students in developing post secondary goals and a high school plan to prepare them for those goals

  • assist students in obtaining information regarding post high school education, including scholarship and financial aid information

For Parents the Guidance Counselors:

  • consult with parents about students’ personal, academic, and social-emotional growth

  • conduct parent conferences when needed

  • interpret standardized test results for parents

  • provide referrals for family and personal crisis

  • provide orientation to the school for incoming students and parents

  • inform parents of problems students may be having at school

  • provide information through the building and district newsletter

  • provide parents with information about discipline, parenting, responsibility, etc. (books and other resources are available from the school counselor)

  • provide referrals to parenting classes with outside resources

  • provide parents with information regarding their students’ career preparation, progress toward completing graduation requirements, and achieving pre-registration for post secondary goals
