We are thrilled to announce the arrival of the GEAR UP Program and introduce our team! We are here to help our students prepare for bright futures through academic support, career exploration, and college readiness initiatives.
Our new GEAR UP staff includes the following:
Abbie Duarte, GEAR UP Advisor: I have a passion for working with adolescents. My background includes extensive experience in guiding young people through their formative years, helping them navigate challenges, and supporting their personal growth. I excel at creating a positive and impactful environment where adolescents can thrive, feel safe and develop their own identities. My bubbly personality always brings a smile to students' faces and my intent is to make a difference in students' lives every day.
Nicole Fry, GEAR UP Advisor: I am an RHS Graduate and longtime Rochester resident with many years of experience working with Colleges and Washington State financial aid programs. I graduated from CWU with a degree in communications and am passionate about education and working with our local communities to provide the next generation of students with amazing opportunities.
Debbie Belcher, GEAR UP Graduation Specialist: I have been employed with RSD for the past 26 years, working with students from preschool through high school. I am excited to be a resource to our students to help them with planning their futures after high school. When I’m not at school, I love spending time with my family, sewing, crafting, gardening, and doing outdoor activities. I’m looking forward to building strong relationships with both students and staff.
Graeme Smith, GEAR UP Graduation Specialist: My name is Graeme and I am passionate about supporting students in their growth. I studied music at UW and later earned my masters in teaching. I am excited to get to know the staff and students at our school and make a positive impact on their academic journey. Outside of school, I love drawing, watercolor painting, and bird watching.
We each bring unique skills and experiences that will enhance the impact of the GEAR UP Program and are eager to collaborate with students, families, and staff to support and encourage student success.
